Provide Hanzi and pinyin in two columns

Use words from a weekend language class, a familiar book, or family conversations. Enter the Hanzi in the first column and pinyin in the second. Tone marks are supported. The Chinese starter list is an example to edit, not a complete curriculum.

term,meaning
春天,chūn tiān
朋友,péng you
学校,xué xiào

The column names in the interface change to Hanzi and Pinyin when Chinese is selected. You can paste these rows, copy two spreadsheet columns, or use the Chinese CSV sample.

Wordnest does not generate pinyin, translate words, convert between simplified and traditional characters, or verify pronunciation. Check the source with your child's teacher or another reliable language resource before printing.

How one-square-per-character grids work

For a read-pinyin, write-Hanzi exercise, open Page setup and choose Character grids. Each Hanzi in the expected answer gets one square. For example, 春 gets one square and 春天 gets two. Punctuation, spaces, pinyin letters, and variation selectors do not add squares.

Words longer than a row of squares wrap rather than being capped at eight characters. The page reserves extra height for the wrapped grids. Very long answers use smaller squares so all characters fit on the selected paper.

These are blank character grids. They do not provide dotted character tracing, stroke-order diagrams, handwriting recognition, or correctness feedback. Your child's existing materials can provide a writing model.

Create a Chinese worksheet step by step

  1. Open the worksheet maker. Select Chinese. Selecting a language preserves your current words; choose a Chinese starter list separately if you want to replace them.
  2. Enter or import your Hanzi and pinyin. Keep one word or phrase and its pinyin together on each row.
  3. In Page setup, select Read the pinyin, write the Hanzi and Character grids. Choose Roomy writing space if the regular layout feels too crowded.
  4. Preview Worksheet and Answer key. Check the Hanzi, tone marks, and word order.
  5. Choose A4 or US Letter, optionally include the answer key, then print or save as PDF.

Adapt the same list to your family

You can enter simplified or traditional Hanzi directly; Wordnest preserves the text rather than converting it. The exact printed font depends on the device's installed fonts, so preview the PDF on the computer you will print from.

Reverse the direction to read Hanzi and write pinyin. An answer without Hanzi uses a writing line even if Character grids is selected. For recognition before writing, try flashcards. For a model-and-copy page, choose a five-day pack and open Tuesday.

Practice can sit alongside reading or conversation. If a list is too long, choose a five-day pack of 5 or 10 words and print one selected group. The remaining words stay available for another pack.

Questions parents ask

Can I use traditional Chinese?

Yes. Enter traditional Hanzi yourself. Wordnest preserves the supplied characters and does not convert between simplified and traditional forms.

Will Wordnest add pinyin or show stroke order?

No. Supply the pinyin in your list and use a separate reliable writing model for stroke order. The tool provides printable grids and practice layouts.
